Full-stack developer building production web applications.

I build modern React and Astro interfaces, PHP APIs, booking systems, Stripe integrations and internal tools, from user experience to production deployment.

ABOUT ME

Hi 👋 I'm Mateo Rumac, a full-stack developer with frontend development as my strongest area. I build production web applications end to end, from UI implementation to API integration and deployment.

My core stack is React and Astro on the frontend, and PHP, MySQL and REST APIs on the backend. I build booking flows, dashboards, payment systems, authentication, role-based interfaces and automations that save people time.

Outside of coding, you'll usually find me at the gym, hanging out with friends, or watching football. Lately I've been spending a lot of that curiosity on AI tooling and automation.

CAREER

My academic background and professional journey in web development.

  1. BSc Informatics, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula

Completed 3 years • Thesis published

Faculty of Informatics. Learned the fundamentals of web development and programming here, from clean code structure to actually solving problems instead of just memorizing theory.

  2. Full-Stack Web Developer, D&A Smart Solutions

    Nov 2024 - Present

I design, build, and deploy our web applications, with an emphasis on accessible, multilingual UI/UX that actually holds up for real users.

    • Custom frontends in React, Vite, and Astro, optimized for speed and technical SEO.
    • PHP backends with custom APIs, dynamic reservation logic, and Stripe integrations supporting 3D Secure and manual capture.
    • Deployments through cPanel and Bitbucket, with SSH for server tasks like Composer and dependency updates, and Postman for API testing.
    • Interactive Chart.js dashboards for real-time KPIs like occupancy, revenue, and OTA channels.
    • An internal admin dashboard that automates daily check-outs and next-day arrivals, cutting manual errors and saving the team time.
    • Brand visuals, presentations, and social content, plus analytics tracking and GDPR-compliant cookie consent.

FREE TOOLS FOR DEVELOPERS

dev-tools

Small tools for real web work.

I kept redoing the same five-minute tasks on every project, so I built dev-tools: image conversion, favicon and Open Graph generation, a contrast checker, a launch checklist, even an AI prompt generator.

Everything runs locally in the tab, nothing gets uploaded. No sign-up, no ads, no tracking. Free to use.

FINANCIAL DECISION APP

Easeful

What does this decision actually cost me, in time?

Easeful is a financial decision app that helps users understand how spending affects their life runway, not just their account balance.

Instead of focusing on traditional budgeting, the product translates expenses into time and impact. It is designed to answer a simple question: what does this decision actually cost me?

HOUSEHOLD-AWARE MEAL PLANNING

MealMate

A meal plan that actually fits everyone at the table.

I built MealMate for my own household: a local-first weekly meal planner that plans for everyone at the table at once, not one person at a time. It works out nutrition targets, filters out allergies and other dietary restrictions, and learns what people actually like from a quick swipe through recipes during onboarding.

There's no LLM in the planning loop. The recommendation engine is a set of deterministic rules and scoring, so a dietary constraint either holds or it doesn't, every time.

Under the hood
  • A rules and scoring engine, not a model: hard filters for allergies and dietary restrictions run first, then preference scoring, nutrition balancing and meal-slot sizing decide the rest of the week.
  • Cuisine and repeat rules cap how often a cuisine or a specific meal can come back around, so a four-week plan doesn't quietly turn into the same six dinners.
  • Stale-plan detection watches a signature built from the household's constraints. Add an allergy or a new household member and the current plan gets flagged instead of quietly staying wrong.
  • An offline recipe pipeline pulls recipes from the Spoonacular API, then runs them through normalization, scoring, Croatian machine translation and a translation quality pass before they reach the app.
  • The week ends in a grocery list, built by aggregating ingredients across every planned meal, with swaps and custom recipes folded in automatically.
BROWSER GAME

Nightfall

A fast, browser-based arcade flight game built solo with Three.js and vanilla JavaScript, no game engine or framework. You pilot a jet through an endless procedurally-generated landscape at dusk, threading glowing rings for combo multipliers while dodging hazards and terrain. Every mountain range is generated in real time from layered noise and erosion and streamed in without stalling the frame, and it runs smoothly on both desktop and mobile.

Under the hood
  • Infinite procedural terrain: ridged-multifractal noise, domain warping, and slope-based erosion, streamed in incrementally so regenerating the world never causes a frame hitch.
  • Physically-informed collision that samples the jet's actual footprint (nose, tail, wingtips) against the mesh, deliberately forgiving so near-misses don't feel cheap.
  • Hand-tuned PBR/bloom pipeline: custom sun sprite, slope+elevation texture blending, thresholds balanced so emissive rings glow without blowing out the jet.
  • Procedural ring course with flyability rules (no impossible back-to-back turns) that still surprises.
  • Full audio engine with crossfading music and crash/pause ducking, plus prefers-reduced-motion, touch controls, and a cinematic autopilot intro.
